School Profile

Central Senior School fully endorses the Board mission statement and "is committed to quality education opportunities for students to enable them to develop to their fullest potential."

WHAT DOES CENTRAL SENIOR SCHOOL OFFER?

We strive to provide the best possible programs for all students in the most enabling, rewarding, and least restrictive environment.

We value students' efforts and seek every opportunity to recognize and nurture them so that our students will become positive and productive global citizens.

Together, we work hard to make a difference, one student at a time, by touching minds, hearts, and spirits to shape futures.

Our programs are varied and provide a strong balanced, academic, artistic, athletic, intramural and extra-curricular approach. In addition to the traditional language arts, mathematics, and social sciences subjects, Central Senior prides itself on its commitment to athletics and to the arts - visual, music, drama and dance. Our science, instrumental music, visual arts, and physical education facilities and programs are compatible with any secondary school.

Athletic activities encourage team skills, sportsmanship and conditioning.  Activity and enrichment days extend student interests in academics, sports and the arts.  Year-end awards assemblies honour academic and athletic excellence and citizenship qualities.

Central is the principal feeder school for LCVI. We send them 70% of our graduates. The remaining 30% go to I.E. Weldon Secondary School.

 Assessment, Evaluation, and Achievement

The purpose of assessment and evaluation is to improve student learning. They are the most critical components of our program. In-class observations and evaluation by teachers are the most effective ways of assessing student achievement.  Teachers use examinations, regular in-class tests and quizzes, portfolios of student work, presentations, and co-operative group work as assessment tools.
