Central Senior In Focus

Central Senior’s philosophy emphasizes the development of the whole student through strong academic, artistic, athletic and co-curricular programs offered in a caring and secure environment.

We believe that our academic content subjects are both challenging and interesting. Language Arts, French, Mathematics, Science, and Physical and Health Education are ongoing all year.  History is semestered with Geography and Visual Arts with Instrumental Music and Drama.

There are three formal Ministry reporting dates during the school year.

Scheduled interviews for all parents take place in late November and as needed throughout the year.

The Physical Education and Health programs provide students with many activities. Students are encouraged to take part in a variety of co-curricular and interschool events. An excellent intramural program is conducted at lunch. Athletic awards are presented to students who show strong commitment to this intramural program.

Our Arts Programs include Vocal and Instrumental Music, Drama, and Visual Arts.  Students have the opportunity to perform in dramatic roles, band and choir, both in small class productions and in a bi-annual theatrical event.  Students work with a variety of mediums in Visual Arts including painting, perspective drawing and mask making.

Our library is extensive and specifically geared to the age levels of our students.  As well, students have access to information on our cdrom, in-house school programs and the Internet.

All students receive regular instruction through our Language Arts program to ensure that we address important computer literacy skills. Students develop skills related to word processing, use of spreadsheets, and making presentations with a computer.

Organization is the key to success at Central School.  Each student is issued a planner for recording test dates, homework, assignments, projects, etc.  The daily use of the planner is monitored and is part of the planning and participation mark.  As well, Central has Homework Pages found elsewhere on this site.  Daily work is recorded by the teacher and can be read by clicking on the homeroom teacher link.

During 2008-2009, we have continued to place a significant emphasis on the development of literacy and numeracy skills. Across the curriculum, in all subject areas, teachers are collaborating to provide instruction that will improve students’ abilities to read, write, and problem solve.

We offer a daily morning breakfast program for any student. It provides all students with the advantage of starting each day with “food for the brain”.
