March break 2025 letter from the director of education to TLDSB families

Dear TLDSB parents/guardians,

It is hard to believe we are already at March break in the 2024-2025 school year! For many, this marks a turning point in the year; when we return from the break the days will feel longer, the weather will start to get warmer, and summer holidays will only be a few months away. The March break is an opportunity for staff and students to rest and recharge so they can return ready to re-engage in learning.

The past few months of winter have posed a challenge for many families; the volume of snow and cold temperatures have meant that there have been a number of transportation cancellations not just in Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB), but in school boards across Ontario. When considering cancellations, staff make the best decisions with the information available to them each morning related to weather forecasts and road conditions. Student and staff safety is always at the forefront of our decision making.

All TLDSB staff have been working extremely hard this school year and I thank them for their dedication. Every staff role helps our system to effectively and efficiently operate, which ultimately supports educators to focus on student achievement and well-being.

I would like to highlight upcoming opportunities for parents/guardians, community members, and staff to attend in March and April:

This spring, there will be opportunities to celebrate students at various Board events, such as the second annual TLDSB Better Together Arts Showcase, the 20th year of Trillium Lakelands Arts Camp, Skills Ontario competitions, the third annual Educational Pow Wow and Drum Social; and various school-based events, such as science fairs, musical and drama performances, track and field events, and club competitions to name a few. Keep an eye on both the Board and school websites and social media accounts for opportunities to attend events and celebrate TLDSB students.

Thank you for a great school year so far. I wish everyone a safe, happy, and rejuvenating break and look forward to continuing to work and learn together when you return.

Sincerely,

Wes Hahn
Director of Education
